Invictus duology by Rachel Neumeier is amazing…. Except… It’s funny as hell
Please don’t get me wrong. I loved the books. I usually hate space theme but these were actually pretty good with amazing relationships between the characters. Honestly I only gave it a shot bc it’s Rachel Neumeier and it was perfect. But there’s a huge BUT. The names. Oh my god. I still crack up when I’m thinking about these books. The thing is, if you know Russian, you would understand. Like, the name of the entire race is basically called «refuge», so imagine every line is: «Refuge is going to attack us», «Refuge have these abilities» etc. Maybe «refuge» doesn’t sound so bad but in another language it certainly does ! Also, the main character is called Syova which is nothing wrong but also kinda funny and a bit of a rare name. Not as funny as «Refuge» though. I suppose when you’re writing about it it doesn’t look the same but if you dig a little deeper it’s hilarious
