What does this behavior mean?
My grandmother passed away and we have taken in her African Grey, Timmy. All I want is for him to be happy and so far he appears happy.
It’s quite a change of pace from living with two elderly people to a home with two adults, two kids (girls 7,4), two dogs, and a cat.
He likes my wife and lets her pet him, he’s even done some of those hormonal characteristics with which we are trying to avoid.
He won’t let me pet him but I can hand feed him pistachios and other stuff he likes.
I’m really curious about this behavior in the video.
He will also sort of shake and puff up and start chattering when I take the cover off his cage in the morning.
The cage is too small.
He has a larger cage at my grandmothers but she didn’t leave a will and legally we can’t access the home or take possession for about 60-90(off of memory from talking with my mom).
I plan on buying him a much much larger cage within the next week. In my opinion it’s still not enough, imagine having the ability to fly and being confined to bars, it’s fucked imo..
Sorry for the rambling, it’s just been a lot and I want to make sure we do right by Timmy.
He also started to pull feathers from his right wing to a small bald spot, I don’t know if that’s new or an existing thing but I want to avoid him doing it more.
As far as the dogs and cats go, he looks at them but doesn’t react. He went down to the bottom of his cage and our husky/malamute licked his beak through the bars and he didn’t react.
We don’t let him out unless they are outside.
My wife just got home when I took this video and he was very excited to see her.
My wife is off work Monday-Wednesday, I work Monday through Friday.
On the Thursday and Friday we both work I have been leaving on a playlist of African grey videos and Elvis music.
