11yo cat solensia side effects
I wanted to share my solensia story (which is a bit of a horror story at this point). I know it works wonders on some cats, but my experience has been a total nightmare. For context: my boy is 11 years old, CKD stage 1 with a a preexisting HCM condition. He has been on renal diet since his diagnosis last August.
I started noticing him limping a little this winter and struggling a little with mobility in general. The vet suggested trying out Solensia. Exactly 3 weeks ago he got his first shot. This is when the horror began. He was fine for the first 3-4 days, I even saw improvements in his mobility fairly early after the shot. Then on day 5 he started vomiting his food with bile in this vicious vomit-more food-more vomit cycle, so I attributed it to his renal condition and gave him a food break for 5-6 hours to break the cycle which helped. In a few more days he started scratching his ears obsessively. Scabs and blood started to appear. I took him to the vet that diagnosed a mild otitis in one of his ears and prescribed antibiotic drops. We did a week of those. Then the worst happened. I noticed he started to breath laboriously as if he had just run a mile. He also lost his appetite and started eating very little. I took him to the vet who diagnosed a CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE and fluid in his chest/lungs, and immediately put him on diuretics and anti thrombosis meds. He is now almost a week into those. His breathing improved, his appetite is still low but improving, he pees a lot (diuretic) and lost about 1lb of weight. The vet says the situation with diuretics is fragile given his CKD condition, so he will need to be monitored closely for the rest of his life. I have been worried sick about loosing him, and seeing him suffer so much just breaks my heart. I cannot prove this, but I am pretty sure Solensia triggered this nightmare. I curse the day I decided to give him this shot. I just pray to God to survives and gets well, and this vicious drug leaves his system finally before he gets worse. The ear scratching is still going on by the way 3 weeks after the shot and the congestive heart failure. Same goes for his low appetite. Any suggestions on how I can help him at this point?
