US/UK citizen with newborn baby
Hello!
I was hoping for some help please, if possible. I am a US citizen with UK citizenship as well, currently living in the UK. My wife (UK citizen) and I have just had our son.
I am curious about any guidance anyone can give me about which passport to broach first, or what order to proceed in. A quick google search showed me that I may need to contact the Consular Report of Birth Abroad, but having a newborn has definitely taken up my mental bandwidth! Any advice someone who has been through something similar would be greatly appreciated.
I’m sure going to the US Embassy in London will be on the cards, which is absolutely fine, I’m just not sure if I should get UK passport first as he was born here. We have our appointment to register the birth in a first weeks, baby is 5 days old already. I know I’m probably jumping the gun but thought I’d ask whilst I was on my mind.
Thanks and sorry if this has been asked already, or if I’m rambling and incoherent! (Aforementioned sleep loss!)
Ah, for reference I am 34 years old, and was born in the US. We moved to the Uk when I was 15, and I applied for a passport/NI etc because my mum is a UK citizen (as well her side of the family) many thanks!! 🙏
