So this happened yesterday at work and I’m still cringing.
I was texting my mom during lunch. Normal conversation. She told me to drive safe, and without thinking I replied, love you.
Except… I didn’t send it to my mom.
I sent it to my boss.
And not just any boss the kind of corporate guy who writes emails like “Per my last message” and somehow makes punctuation feel aggressive.
The second I realized, my stomach dropped.
He replied with: “???”
At that point, a normal person probably says, Sorry, wrong chat.
Did I do that? No.
For some reason, panic completely took over and I replied: Please ignore that.
Which somehow made it 10x worse.
Then he leaves me on read for like 20 minutes while I’m sitting at my desk wondering if I should just quit and disappear into the forest.
Finally he replies: Understood.
Short. Cold. Terrifying.
The rest of the day was painfully awkward. Every time I saw him, I suddenly became very interested in my computer screen.
Then right before leaving, he walked past my desk and casually said:
“Drive safe.”
I genuinely don’t know if he was joking or if HR has already opened a file on me.
Still recovering from the embarrassment.
