Lying in Interviews + on Resumes…

Im curious if anyone has lied on their resume or in an interview.

Did it help you? Were you caught? Or did it not change your application outcomes.

Obviously lying is inherently wrong… but I’ve been thinking slightly adjusting a story or ownership would maybe help. Obviously you need to fully understand what your owning + know you can do / learn the role you’re applying for.

Specifically asking about IT jobs.

Or do you believe you should never lie or fudge anything- just be honest.

My job search has been interestingly frustrating. Just want to rant somewhere.

  1. Spoke with 7 people from a company through linkedin cold calls. Some said they would put a good word in to their boss + the recruiter. Had an interview with HR. I thought it went well (looking back I should have sold myself more). She said she would get back to me in under 24 hours. I was then ghosted.

  2. Interviewed for another position a few weeks later. Went really well. Job was put on freeze with no timeline to re open.

  3. Interviewed 3 times with another company. All went super well. Didn’t get it.

  4. Spoke with a hiring manager / team lead for an upcoming position. Went really well. Job was taken down as the person who was going to retire changed their mind.

  5. Just interviewed this week (2nd one of the job) with the lead. Went really well. Said I should hear something be EOD. It’s now been 48 hours and nothing.

Not going to give up… yet. I still have hope for the most recent one, but just not a good sign. I feel like I’ve gotten so close.

Any special advice? I’m going for entry level technical consulting roles.
