I keep being told this series is the peak of litrpg, but whenever I read a description for this thing I immediately lose interest in reading it. Which is entirely because of 1 thing: the series apparently has a popularity contest based power system, and I cannot stand the idea of that. I get really bothered by it every time it interjects itself into something i'm reading, and I always avoid series that describe popularity as a focal point of its power system. As someone who really likes power systems being part of the worlds I read about, I would much rather have no power system than that.
Yet, the fact that I keep hearing how good this series is makes me think i'm missing something. I do not have any motivation to read it, but this is really bugging me.
Does anyone else feel that way about popularity-based power systems, but still liked the series? Or on the contrary, maybe felt the same way I do and hated the series because of it? I'd really like to know if trying to get into this thing is worth the effort.
