Hi everyone,
I’m visiting Rome and just had a quick question about tipping culture here.
I ate at a place that wasn’t exactly a formal restaurant, but it had table service. On the receipt, there was a “servizio” charge of €2.50. However, when I was leaving, the waiter told me that the tip should be given in cash.
I’m a bit confused — I thought the servizio already covered the service? Is it actually expected to leave extra cash on top of that, or was this just the waiter trying to get an additional tip?
Would love to hear from locals or people familiar with Italy. Thanks!
