I recently got a speeding ticket in Tennessee for 91 in a 65. I travel a lot with work, so I usually get 1 or 2 speeding tickets a year. I like a clean driving, so I’ve always hired a lawyer and get it dismissed or plea to a non-moving violation. I’ve always paid between $150-$250 to an attorney. This Tennessee ticket has resulted in multiple quotes of $500+. I’ve called my insurer and I’m looking at ~$22/mo increase for 3 years. My state doesn’t assess points for speeding out of state. looking at the net present value I can’t see anything more than $350 on a lawyer making sense long term. Any opinions on why the exorbitant fee or anything I’m not considering in paying it? The fine only $25 the other $250 are court costs I wouldn’t get around, so it really comes down to insurance vs attorney fees.
