Waiting for MRI & PT…

For a likely stress reaction or stress fracture in my tibia. Other than rest…what else would you do while waiting?

NOT LOOKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE!! I’ve already been seen by a doctor, just waiting to get an MRI and will go to physical therapy once a proper diagnosis has been made. Mods: please delete if this isn’t allowed!

Shin splint has progressed to what I think is either a stress reaction or stress fracture in my right tibia. Been battling shin splints bilaterally since January, left leg feels great, right has gone from diffuse soreness to pinpoint pain.

I immediately stopped running once I felt the pinpoint pain, and even preemptively put myself in a boot. I figure it couldn’t hurt it more at this point lol it’s been 3 weeks since then, and I’ve done stationary bike (seated only) and very light strength training (no heavy weights or carries, no plyos, no lateral or single sided movements) and it’s felt great. I’m very cautious with movement and if anything feels even a tiny bit uncomfortable, I won’t do it.

My question is… what else could you do while waiting? Any sort of banded exercises? Alphabet with your toes? Anything? Or just rest?

I’m a self admitted terrible patient and want to get my body moving again so bad, but I know time and moderate rest are going to be my best bets for getting healthy again. But being a runner I’m sure you all get how hard it is it JUST WAIT! Lol I won’t run at all until I get under the care of a PT, just wondering what if anything else you’d add in to your regiment during this lovely waiting game?

Also I’m taking my vitamins, getting lots of hydration and sleep, making sure I fuel properly etc etc to ensure that my body is getting what it needs internally to heal as well. 😊

How did you maintain fitness while recovering from stress reaction/fracture?

I’ve been battling shin splints in both legs since mid-January. I’ve been trying to do everything right. Better nutrition, rest, calf/ankle/foot strengthening, calf stretching, etc. My left leg feels great but my right leg has recently gotten worse. I now have pain in that keg while hopping and I hadn’t had that at all previously in this process :(

I’ve finally made an appt with my dr on Thursday, and will go down whatever diagnosis route they recommend (I’ll be asking for an MRI and referral to a specific sports physical therapist that I’ve researched)

My question is how did you keep any of your fitness while recovering from a stress reaction or stress fracture? I had a stress fracture in my foot in high school, so 6-8 weeks off wrecked my track season but being young I bounced back so fast! I’m worried about losing all the fitness I have if I’m placed in a boot on full rest.

HELP!! Any advice would help! Thanks!

Hi all, husband (38M) and I (39F) will be going on our 4th cruise on the Resilient Lady this summer, but this will be our first time visiting Puerto Plata as one of our ports of call.

How walkable is it? Is there much to see/do without booking a shore thing/excursion?

Any info/tips are welcome! Thanks!

ETA: Resilient Lady not Scarlet Lady!
