Got most of the rust and a majority of the paint off. I didn't want to brush it too hard and wear off the stamp.

I plan to do another round of paint removal and some scrubbing with a scotch bright pad.

Still not sure what's going on with these jaws though. Maybe one was welded on?

Everything about this vise is hard to work on because of its sheer size and weight.

Hey All!

I just snagged an old Prentiss Vise (weighs about 275 lbs). It had a moderate amount of surface rust and one mounting ear broken off (see pictures). I do have the broken ear mount. Which I plan to weld back on eventually.

I already started rust removal and it us cleaning up well. I am likely going to remove all the paint and just keep it oiled.

Looking for suggestions and help to know how to properly restore it without making it look "fake" or too modern...If that makes sense.
