Starch paste preservative?

Today I tried an experiment making starch paste. Instead of dissolving cornstarch in water, I dissolved it in liquid laundry starch. This stuff has various chemicals added to prevent spoiling, so my thinking is maybe this would keep a batch useable longer than a week or so, like a typical batch of boiled starch paste might have.

Normally I just use Nori paste, which I love & works great, but it's a little pricey at $16 a tub.

Has anyone else done any experiments with adhesives using laundry starch? Surely I can't be the only person who has thought of this- but searching the bookbinding reddit doesn't reveal much.

Thanks in advance.

A look at some simple repairs on an antique book

I thought I'd show off some of the repairs that I'm doing for a friend. This work isn't anything fancy... he needs to keep the cost of repairs down in order to sell these and still make anything close to a profit. This particular book is a lot older than most, published in 1806. So in this particular case, I made all my repairs reversable... in other words, I used Nori paste, so that anything I've done can be undone with water at a later date. I just consolidate the text block by hinging in any loose signatures. Then I replaced the missing spine cloth with some bookcloth that I made by ironing on some mulberry paper with heat n bond. I don't want to do anything more invasive, since it's such an old book. I finished it off with a simple slipcase using the DAS Bookbinding pattern.

Trip planning app for US Leaf owners...

Hi folks- For those of you who are US based... is there a particular trip planning app that you prefer for finding Leaf-compatible (chademo) chargers? We haven't yet tried a long trip using our Leaf, but we'd like to. And so many apps seem to be Tesla-centric, I wondered if there is anything that other Leaf owners like. Thanks!
