First day of school at Saint-Laurent

I know that the first day is August 24 but is there like any day before like welcome days or something like that? I know it’s a thing in a few other cegeps but it’s my first time at saint-Laurent so I wouldn’t know. Thanks

Help to increase r score

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from people who know the Québec CEGEP system well, especially regarding R-scores.
A bit of background: I didn’t start CEGEP in Health Science. I began in another program and later switched into Health Science at Dawson. I completed one semester of Health Science at Dawson before moving to Cégep à distance.

At Cégep à distance I completed:
Integral Calculus
Linear Algebra
Humanities III
French I
French II
I finished all of these with final grades above 90%. For reference, I got a 95% in Integral Calculus and a 98% in Linear Algebra.
My current R-score is about 31, and my goal is to get it to 33+ by the time I finish CEGEP. Since I switched into Health Science later, I still have four full semesters of Health Science courses remaining.

I wanted to continue studying in French, so I applied to Cégep de Saint-Laurent almost as a joke because I honestly didn’t think I would get accepted. To my surprise, I got in. However, after talking to friends and students who have studied there, several people told me that Saint-Laurent is not the best choice if your goal is maximizing your R-score.

For Fall 2026 I’m currently registered in:
General Chemistry
Electricity & Magnetism
Cellular Biology
Probability & Statistics
French III
One complementary course
One Physical Education course

My plan right now is to attend Saint-Laurent this fall and then possibly transfer to Bois-de-Boulogne or Maisonneuve for Winter 2027.

What I’m really trying to figure out is this:
Out of the specific courses I’m taking this fall, which ones would you personally keep at Saint-Laurent and which ones would you drop before the course-change deadline and save for another CEGEP?
I’m not looking for general advice like “work hard” or “pick the school you like best.” I’m looking for course-by-course recommendations.

For example:
Would you keep General Chemistry at Saint-Laurent but save E&M for another CEGEP?
Would you keep Cellular Biology but move Statistics?
Would you take French III somewhere else?
Would you move the complementary or Physical Education course instead?
Would you keep all the science courses and only move the non-science courses?
Or would you not change anything at all?
My objective is simply to maximize my R-score and get from about 31 to 33+.

Also:
Which of these courses are usually the hardest to get very high grades in: General Chemistry, Electricity & Magnetism, Cellular Biology, Probability & Statistics, French III, the complementary course, or Physical Education?
Which of these courses would benefit the most from being taken at a CEGEP such as Bois-de-Boulogne or Maisonneuve instead of Saint-Laurent?
Between Bois-de-Boulogne and Maisonneuve, which would you choose if your goal was maximizing your R-score?

Is it realistic to go from a 31 R-score to a 33+ with four full semesters of Health Science remaining?
The deadline to apply for Winter 2027 is November 1st. Unless I’m mistaken, that means those CEGEPs won’t see my Fall 2026 grades from Saint-Laurent and will mainly evaluate me based on my previous record.
Because of that, I’m wondering: does the fact that I completed my recent courses through Cégep à distance hurt my chances of being admitted to Bois-de-Boulogne or Maisonneuve? Do admissions offices view Cégep à distance differently from an in-person CEGEP, or is it treated the same?

Based on my profile (R-score around 31, 95 in Integral Calculus, 98 in Linear Algebra, and 90+ in my other Cégep à distance courses), do I have a realistic chance of getting into Bois-de-Boulogne or Maisonneuve for Winter 2027, or should I be focusing on less competitive options such as Rosemont, Ahuntsic, or Vieux Montréal?

I’d especially appreciate answers from people who attended Saint-Laurent, Bois-de-Boulogne, or Maisonneuve, or anyone who has gone through the Health Science pathway and understands how R-scores work in practice.
Thanks!
