Are people in the USA really unaware about the problem of nuclear waste?

In discussions I often see people from the USA claiming that nuclear energy is such a clean, environment and climate friendly method.

This may be true in the moment of production itself, but it also produces a lot of radioactive waste.

No country worldwide has a final solution for the storage of this waste, which will be radioactive at least thousands of years.

This is one of the reasons why we in Germany decided to stop producing nuclear energy.

Are people in the USA really unaware about this problem?
