No electrical box on brick garage exterior lights

I went to replace the light fixtures on the outside of my brick garage today and discovered that there is no electrical box: just the wires through one hole in the mortar and a stud (which the old fixture mounted to) in another. The stud is smaller than the normal size for a light fixture (I have an old ceiling light bracket with a threaded hole in the middle and it slides right over it).

I don't have any way (or desire) to drill through the mortar or bricks. My current plan is to get a pancake box with a hole in the center and clamp down on the stud with a nut, and mount the new fixture to that. But then the light will stick out from the garage a bit and might look kind of stupid. I bought the lights a long time ago and can no longer return them. They also match the ones on the house, so I'd prefer to stick with these lights.

If there's an easier and/or better way, let me know.

Starting a few days ago, I started using the Windows desktop app much more regularly (for the first time in probably a decade). Every once in about 100 cards, I'll submit my answer and the card won't update. If I "answer", it'll update to show the new answer card. If I click on "Decks," it'll update briefly before going back to the Decks page. If I resize the window it will update (and stay updated if I go back to full screen). This happens in both full screen and window mode.

I noticed I was on 25.07.x, so I updated to the latest version (25.09.2) and this still happens. I've only noticed it when both cards have a picture, but most of my cards have pictures so that might not be a real data point.

Is this an old issue that I never noticed? Is anybody else experiencing this? It's only mildly annoying, but it does throw off my rhythm.

I've had some of these cards for years, and the only add-on I have is heatmap, so I don't think note type or add-ons are the issue.
