Struggles finding housing:Japanese Phone Number
So, I have been applying to dozens of apartments over the past month. Originally, it was in preparation for my arrival in Japan, but now I am here and dont have a place to live yet.
We found an apartment that is willing to work with me, but they require I have a Japanese phone number.
I tried to sign up for esims with a phone number through Ahamo, Sakura Mobile, and a few others. However, they all check the address of record against the address on my residence card. I do not currently have an address on my residence card, as I am living out of hotels. However, in order to get said address, I need a phone number.
So, how do we break out of this catch 22? I even tried asking a friend to make a phone line for me, to no avail.
To be fair, this barrier is a legal one https://www.shugiin.go.jp/internet/itdb_gian.nsf/html/gian/honbun/youkou/g16205011.htm because voice carriers are required to verify proof of address.
I cant just borrow someone's phone number, as the landlord intends to call me to verify I can speak Japanese, etc. prior to signing.
