Modern AU ; Normally I find it hard to get into modern au's but this fic made me really appreciate this genre!
I've been seeing a lot of discourse on the Painted Lady being shown early in the Live Action series leading to a lot of Zutara backlash from fans.
The main argument is that it takes away from Katara's character as an individual by taking a pivotal point of her character growth away from her, but wasn't that what happened in the comics and TLOK anyways? I personally don't think it's Aang's fault that she was sidelined and more so the writers.
The Painted Lady, her blood bending, and the parts of her that are made to be unique aren't really mentioned again after the end of the first series (other than her healing abilities), so I'm genuinely confused why there is a discourse about this change affecting her character when she was ooc in the comics and played a mild support role in TLOK.
I do understand that the majority of people want to see the LA follow the animated series closely, but to call it a "Zutara fanfic" is a low blow. Turning it into a shipping war is truly the part of this all that boils Katara down to just being someone's love interest, which again would be the writer's mistake and not Zutara or Kataang as a ship!
Then again this is all based on a very very short clip from the trailer, so we can't really know for sure until it happens!
