Are there flexible English-learning or summer school options for teenagers in the U.S.?

Hi everyone,

I know this may be slightly off topic, but perhaps it could also be interesting for ESL teachers or people familiar with summer language programs in the US.

This summer I’ll be travelling around the US with my teenage son for the entire month of July. Since I’ll need to do some work during that time, I thought it would be a great opportunity to enroll him in an English language program for a week or two so he could improve his English while also spending time with other kids.

What surprised me is how difficult these programs are to find in the US.

In Europe, there are countless private language schools offering flexible one- or two-week courses for teenagers during the summer. In the US, however, most language schools seem to focus on adults, often people studying long-term or attending on student visas. Programs for children and teenagers seem to be mostly nonprofit or public-school initiatives designed for immigrant students already living in the area.

I’ve been researching options in Colorado, Utah, Texas, and Florida, but so far I haven’t had much luck finding flexible short-term ESL/summer programs for teenagers.

Does anyone know of schools, camps, or programs like this in those states or elsewhere? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
