Reality Check

Self employed person here looking at working for the state. Not because my business is failing, but because its technical work and basically impossible to hire good help (and compensate them what I think they deserve).

So ive been working 90 hour weeks for a decade. Never had a paid day off, sick day, etc. in my life. Not as young as I once was, but young enough to grind out most of a pension before retirement age assuming I survive that long. Im tired, and looking for some change.

No job offer yet, but im fairly confident it will come.

Anyway. I realize this is the internet (home of doom, fire and brimstone), but scrolling here it looks like the state is a complete dumpster fire right now. I am especially spooked by this "bumping" talk.

Coach me. Is it really that bad? Am I likely to get into this position, then immediately get rug pulled?

My goal is to build a career that is stable, pays well enough to survive and has far better work / life boundaries, so I can actually enjoy my remaining time here on earth.
