Reheating food in a microwave
What does everyone think about reheating food in a microwave from a health and nutrition perspective?
I’m not talking about microwave meals or processed foods—just using a microwave to reheat normal, home-cooked food.
Does microwaving have any meaningful negative effects on health? More specifically, does it significantly affect the nutrient content of food compared with other reheating methods?
I’ve read a few studies and articles, but I’ve come across conflicting conclusions. Some suggest that certain nutrients may be reduced, while others suggest microwaving preserves nutrients quite well because of the shorter cooking time.
I’d be interested to hear from anyone familiar with the research. Is there a scientific consensus on this, or does it depend mainly on the type of food, nutrient, temperature, and heating time?
