Worth it to Pursue DJ Clerkship?

Second year lit labor and employment associate at Am100 firm. I’ve been considering applying for DJ clerkships in my mid to large regional area. During law school I applied and got a couple of interviews, but wasn’t able to secure anything. Now, with a few years of experience under my belt, I’ve been reconsidering, but I have several friends who are clerking right now in the same district and are struggling to find positions at firms. I genuinely enjoy where I work. However, I’ve always wanted to add a clerkship to my resume, and I know it will open more doors down the line. I haven’t mentioned my interest to clerk to the partners I work with or the practice chair, but my mentor senior associate has told me a couple times that the firm would likely not be able to promise me a spot. Any advice?
