What's the difference between an inalienable right and a duty?

For context, some rights like for example human rights are considered inalienable, a part of that is that they cannot be taken but they can also not be waived. You cannot, for example, waive your right to life. (at least you can't in many jurisdictions.)
But to me this is seems to imply that an inalienable right is just a duty.
Afterall if I can't waive it my right to life may aswell be a duty, there's no real difference, or at least I fail to see it.
