Full Upper Extraction on 5/11 and I just ate a pork chop for supper.
As the title said, I had 13 teeth extracted (the rest of my upper teeth and a bottom one) and immediate upper put in on 5/11. I was super worried about talking (I work in sales) and eating. Turns out, the speech has gone along well and I was having much more trouble eating than I realized. I've already been having to cut up my food and chew carefully but I haven't been able to use much force for ages.
Tonight, I made bone in pork chops stuffed with spinach and cheeses and cooked it in the crock pot to have with rice and peas. I cooked it tender but still had some parts that were standard dry pork. I ate it up. When I chewed, I was careful but was able to press down hard enough to grind the meat and "chew" it. I was so happy! And, the taste of stuff seems to be coming back after losing the roof of my mouth being covered by the denture. When I was done, I got brave and pressed my tongue to the roof of my mouth and bit and pulled the last few pieces of meat off the bone. Fantastic! I lost most of my upper front teeth a while back and haven't done that in ages.
I just felt like sharing in case anyone else was looking at getting uppers and worried about food. I'm very blessed it was just the uppers and still have the bottoms to work with (most of them at least) so I'm sorry if this is insensitive to those working on rehabilitating a whole set.
For those putting it off, don't! Pull the trigger. Sit down and sort out the finances and get an appointment. Once the ball starts rolling, it'll be over before you know it.
