I’m building a pattern-making tool for punch needle — what would actually be useful to you?

Hi everyone! 👋 I’m the developer of Rugmi, an iOS app I’ve been working on for creating patterns for punch needle, tufting, and latch hook.

One of the things I’m trying to make easier is going from a photo or illustration to a pattern you can actually work with — simplifying the design, reducing and adjusting colors, setting the finished size, estimating yarn, and preparing the pattern for transfer.

I’d really love some input specifically from punch needle crafters before I decide what to work on next.

How do you usually prepare and transfer your designs? And what part of that process do you wish was easier or less manual?

Mostly looking for honest feedback and ideas. 🙂

I’m building a pattern-making tool for tufting — what am I missing?

Hi everyone! 👋 I’m the developer of Rugmi, an iOS app I’ve been working on for creating patterns for tufting, punch needle, and latch hook.

I started working on it around the idea of making the prep part a bit easier — getting from an image to something you can actually transfer to the cloth and tuft. I’ve added things like simplifying colors, editing the design, working with the actual rug size, yarn estimates, and a few different ways to transfer the pattern.

But before I keep adding things I think are useful, I’d really like to hear from people who actually tuft regularly.

What’s the most annoying part of preparing a design before you start tufting? Is there anything you currently have to do manually that you wish an app could handle?

Mostly looking for honest feedback and ideas. 🙂
