Can anyone explain the process for employing a domestic worker that is already in Cyprus ?
TL;DR - I am new to all this and have spoken to some agents who say it will be at least 2 months to bring someone over. Can anyone explain what I will need to do to employ a woman already in Cyprus?
Slightly longer version: My parents (GCs but currently in UK) my Father’s (89) health is declining rapidly, to the point my Mother (80) needs some help. They would both like to return to Cyprus asap, where they have a home.
We don’t think we can wait 2 or more months to bring a new worker to Cyprus via an agent that usually sorts all the paperwork, so I was hoping someone with more experience could ELi5 what we need to do to find and employ someone already in the country.
If we find someone we like, so far I understand we have to:
- Check they have valid release papers from previous employer (incl statement from Social Insurance Services).
- Pay their (decent) salary monthly direct to their nominated bank account.
- If they are not yet registered for GESY, we have to provide private health insurance to include repatriation of mortal remains (Plan A).
- If they have GESY registration we need private insurance to cover to include repatriation of mortal remains.
- Pay monthly the employee and employer Social Insurance via SISnet online portal (if they are already registered for GESY, is this included in this payment or is separate?).
- Employers Liability insurance
Are there any good brokers for these insurances?
Do we as the employer have to update the local Aliens and Immigration that they are now our employee (or does the worker do this)?
Anything else?
Feeling pretty lost, if anyone can help with any advice.
