Combat with positioning, dodging, timing, etc. but not Souls-Like difficulty?
- PC (especially Steam Deck) or Switch 1 (not 2!)
- Single player!
I want a game where I can feel like a badass by dodging, rolling, dashing, positioning, parrying, counter-attacking, etc. but I don't want something super punishing. Dark Souls and Monster Hunter I've played already, and I don't want something that hard right now. On the other extreme, I actually really enjoyed Kirby and the Forgotten Land's post-game bosses and boss rush, though it's too simple and easy overall.
Also, I'm not very good at memorizing and executing combo strings. I'd rather the focus be on overall timing, positioning, reading tells, etc. than on whether or not I can hit the right 10-button sequence.
Please do NOT recommend (either because I already played it, or it's too easy/too hard, or I just don't like it for some reason):
- Demon Souls, Dark Souls series, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or other Souls-like games
- Nioh 1/2
- Hollow Knight / Silksong
- Hades 1/2
- Any Monster Hunter game
- Any Mario, Zelda, Kirby, or Smash Bros game
- Any traditional "fighter" game where learning specific combos is a big deal
- Any PvP game
- Any MMO
If you have some advice to offer about how one of the above games is actually easier than I think or about how I just need to git gud, please keep it to yourself.
EDIT: Ok, I get it, "that's a lot of restrictions". What can I say? I have played a lot of games, and I know what I don't want or can't play for personal reasons.
