Inheriting my dad’s collection, No. 2

Hi there! I mentioned in a recent post that I recently inherited my dad’s 200 strong collection of fountain pens when he very sadly died a couple of months ago. I said I was going to work through them and possibly post some here for feedback.

This is number 2, a big, handsome, chunky Montegrappa that I think he used a lot (I think there may be more Montegrappas in his bespoke pen cabinet). I couldn’t find out much about it except that it’s one of a limited run of 888, but I think many of Montegrappa’s special editions were limited to that many.

Does anybody recognise this one, or can anybody give me any tips about what it might be?

Inheriting my dad’s collection, No. 1

Hi there! I’ve always been a fountain pen fan, writing with two Franklin Christophs that I bought many years ago. My dad on the other hand was an avid collector and amassed over 200 pens in his lifetime: he had a bespoke cabinet made for them and everything.

He died a couple of months ago and his collection has come to me, so I may post about them as I work through them and discover what he had. Help identifying some of them might be asked for!

It’s weird because he showed loads of them to me after he bought them and I remember often being really envious of his beautiful acquisitions.

Anyway, the first one I took out from his collection is the one I always loved most, this Onoto. I think it was a special edition to celebrate 30 years of the Writing Equipment Society, as the Magnas you can buy now don’t look exactly like this.

Look forward to seeing all your pens (and finding out about mine) in the weeks ahead!

Afternoon all! As some of you may know, I write a weekly restaurant blog, and whenever my review comes from Oxford I pop it in the subreddit. That’s because you’ve always been so kind about them, so hopefully people enjoy reading my work.

This week I was at the Port Mahon on St Clement’s, so here’s the link if you fancy reading about it. As always, I’d love your recommendations for spots I should check out on my increasingly regular trips to Oxford.

I know I say this every time, but no worries if this isn’t your thing, and apologies in advance if this comes across as spamming or wasting your time. I know my stuff isn’t everybody’s cup of tea!
