A yaesu 757 GX not receiving anything
I recently purchased a Yaesu FT-757GX and I'm experiencing some very strange behavior.
Since I don't have the original power connector, I powered it using alligator clip leads, manually connecting the +13 V supply and shorting the two pins that, according to the documentation, need to be connected together for the radio to power on.
The transceiver appears to turn on normally and seems to operate correctly, but in reality it receives absolutely nothing. Even very strong stations that should be easy to hear are not received.
I also tried transmitting in AM mode, but there is no RF output power at all.
Another strange symptom is that, within a certain frequency range, a loud crackling or popping noise appears. The noise starts exactly when I hear an electromechanical relay click as I tune into a particular band segment, and it disappears as soon as I change frequency range and the relay switches again.
Has anyone encountered similar behavior on an FT-757GX? What could have happened? Could this be related to the band-switching relays, filters, power supply issues, or perhaps a known failure in this model?
Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
