How do I cope with knowing the dogs most likely think I've betrayed them by "getting rid of" them?

I'm a new foster, with just my second foster currently in-home. We had to bring our first foster back to the shelter after about 2 weeks because we left town and the shelter wanted him to be "showcased" - thankfully he was adopted the next day! We would have picked him up to bring him back home if he hadn't been. I'm about to drop off my second foster to spend the night at the shelter (😢) because they want him in a rescue and he's being transported tomorrow.

In both scenarios, I just KNOW that the dog has felt like we're their new family and then BAM we leave them. I could cry just typing this out, as knowing that breaks my heart.

I know what we're doing is for their best, but I'm devastated at these babies thinking they've been abandoned again by their "parents."

Any tips for how to cope with that sadness?
