Late 90s pop/rock song

I’m looking for a song I used to hear around 1998 or 1999, when I was about six or seven years old. It was often on the radio (in the Netherlands, but most songs on Dutch radio were English/American).
The style reminds me a bit of songs like “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum or “Drops of Jupiter” by Train — emotional late-90s rock/pop. It was definitely sung by a man.

The only thing I vaguely remember is that the chorus or an important line seemed to end with “street along,” though I’m really not sure if those were the actual words or just what it sounded like to me as a kid. I know ending on “street alone” would make more sense, but even as a 7-year-old Dutch kid, I’m pretty sure I heard “along” and not “alone.”

I’ve literally been trying to find this song for the last 25 years. I know I really liked it when I was young, but I just can’t find it. The information I have is super limited, and honestly, I thought that with the rise of AI I’d finally be able to solve it. I’ve spent the last couple of years trying AI tools, but no luck so far.

Every time the Soul Asylum song plays somewhere, my heart skips a beat and I think, “Maybe this is it!” But after a few seconds, I recognize it as the song I’ve mistakenly thought was the song more than 100 times by now.

So now I’m coming to Reddit for the first time ever, hoping maybe a real human recognizes this vague memory.

So:
* Played a lot on the radio around 1998/1999
* In the style of Soul Asylum / Train
* Recurring sentence ending with “street along”

Does anyone have any idea what this song could be? If not, I guess I’ll keep cracking my brain over it for another 25 years.
