moving from Minnesota to Toronto/Canada
my partner and i live in Minnesota and, with everything going on, are crafting a very real plan to move to Canada.
my great-grandfather was born in Quebec and i’m looking into claiming dual citizenship as i think i have all the documents needed to do so. my partner is from Latin America, immigrated to America, but we both want to go to grad school anyway, so she is looking into that route.
my issue is that i have lived here my entire life. i’m nervous about the costs of immigration, the process and the timelines, the cost of housing. i’ve been reading reddit boards and have seen a lot of conflicting information.
culturally, i know that it’ll be a bit of a shock, as are all big moves, but i’m prepared for that. i am concerned about cost of living vs. salaries as we already don’t have enough money, as well as housing, as i’ve seen expressed concerns on many posts.
for context: we are both 24 year old women, we both work in public health with specific specializations, both have bachelors degrees (mine is in humanities and hers is in STEM), both seeking further education, no kids and both proficient in english (she is trilingual, but not French).
does anyone have any advice? this is so out of my wheelhouse and i’d love to hear from anyone that has any insight. thank you!
