LE Career Question- prior drug use
My husband has been getting turned down for police officer positions because of prior drug use. About 10 years ago, when he was in high school, he experimented a few times and on one occasion tried cocaine. He has never had any charges or legal issues, but he is also terrified of polygraph tests and does not want to lie or hide anything during the hiring process.
The problem is that it feels like the moment he discloses that part of his history, he gets shown the door. I understand departments have standards, but can one bad decision as a teenager really close the door forever?
We are feeling pretty discouraged and wondering if there is still hope. Has anyone gone through something similar or have advice on departments, time requirements, or experiences with this?
Edit: We’re in Texas :)
Seems like he just needs to keep applying and hopefully somebody will take a chance on him. I appreciate everyone’s input so far, thank you all!
