What’s it like living in Southern Ohio, where those 16 kids were rescued?
Article provided for context, but basically 16 kids aged 18 years to 18 months were found living in a 12 by 12 room. All from same parents. Kids were found in total squalor and some had to be flown to hospitals to be placed in critical care. Most of the kids couldn’t communicate. Community says they had no idea there were kids living there. Things might be sensationalized, but there are few details on the situation right now.
Trying to figure out if what happened is a product of personal evil, a failure of the system, or a combination of both.
Vinton county is Ohio’s least populated county. Former coal country as I understand. There is one school district for the whole county of about 12,000 people.
I live in Northeast Ohio and occasionally work in Southeast and South Central Ohio, but I’ve never visited Vinton county. I know there is a lot of poverty and very few jobs in the surrounding counties, but staying for a few days at a time doesn’t give me the same context as growing up there. Is it possible for a family with 16 kids living in squalor to fall through the cracks of the system? Or is there some true evil happening with this family.
