What sped umbrella would Karen from Mean Girls fall under?
I was having a conversation with some of my friends who also work in special education, essentially: what if “quirky” or “ditzy” characters were given actual disability labels?
Karen from Mean Girls strikes me in particular because she shows
-Academic deficits
-Naivety compared to peers
-Slower cognitive processing
-Literal thinking
-Poor spelling
And also:
-Enjoys rigid social rules
-Small friend group
-Is friendly
-Aware of trends
-Empathetic
-Makes creative connections
We were going between Specific Learning Disability, Cognitive Delay, and Autism but I think this is a fun topic and would love to hear if there are other characters that come to mind.
(Also, this is meant for light-hearted purposes. I love Karen and I think it would be cool to have more fun/positive representation in media. She is also a fictional character and, of course, can not be fully evaluated.)
