Trying to Rebuild Data System
TL;DR: Disk crashed, computer crashed. Would like to reset my Mac and configure Time Machine, and need new additional storage. Two new storage systems I need to buy/set up. Help!
Hi,
My work and my hobby (creating electronic music) take up a lot of storage sometimes. About a year ago I offloaded a lot of my music-making stuff from my computer (MacBook Pro '23) to an external SanDisk SSD, which worked fine until it didn't. The thing crashed, and all my work was lost.
That wasn't the only problem that came my way suddenly. Now I'm faced with the following tasks:
• Hard-reset my Mac. This is due to some bugs and an overload of "System Data" and I need to reconfigure it to work better. But I don't want to do this without saving my essential data somehow.
• Set up Time Machine. I want to be able to run Time Machine backups, and I have no idea what the right thing to get is. I've been told DAS, Thunderbolt, RAID, all of which sound good, but actually finding the right products is hard to a newcomer like myself.
• New solution for recovering the old stuff on the crashed disk, and a new place to put it. I would like that data back, but at any rate I'm going to need space for putting new music-related files if I'm to start again.
So I have a strange situation, and nothing online has really helped. I thought I'd ask here, you guys seem to know your way around products, setting up a good system, whatnot. If this isn't the right subreddit, I apologize, and would greatly appreciate you pointing me to one that more closely aligns with my needs.
Thanks!
