Visitor visa from Afghanistan

Hi. My friend lives in UK and his father is in Afghanistan. His father wants to visit him. Is it possible for him to get a standard visa to see him. I know for him to get a visa he will need to go a country like Tajikistan Iran or Pakistan to complete it. Is it worth the hassle or impossible?
