Originally I wanted to just install aluminum railings on my front deck but now I find out the stairs are not supported by anything but dirt and a worn out rim joist and joists. There are four post on the rim joist but the are not even buried in the dirt. They all just Hoover. I was quoted at $2500 for replacing the stairs, the rim and joists, and setting proper foundations for the post and the bottom of the stairs.
