First time Dm asking for advice.

Hello everyone,

I'm a first time DM making a homebrew world (story in a nutshell) revolving around the adventurers, our adventurers are a bunch of 16-17 years old who are attempting the trials to join the guild.

I got inspired by some of the those adventure guild anime, I think it will be fun. I even let one of my friends play an alchemist/artificer and his character is based of Senku from Dr.Stone which I'm excited about.

My fear and concerns comes from one of the other players who was DMing the previous campaign. (We all a new group and we haven't really found our rhythm yet.) In his campaign we were all animal humanoids and the theme was pirate like. I played a Bladesinger Tortel after explaining to the dm that i will have a high AC and he Ok'ed it.

On session 3 we were lv 2, I have unlocked my Bladesinger ability which gave me an ac of 22 for 1 minute. We were about to fight yet another group of goblins. I had casted my bladesinger ability + Shillelagh first round which was a surprise round for us. First roll the dm makes against me "does a 17 hit?" no I replied, already feeling that there might be some foul play here cause the previous fight it was the same thing he rolled a 17 first round against me.

"what's your AC?" dm asks, 22 i replied. Next round he rolls a 22, I use my reaction for a shield spell. (cause I'm a wizard i have ac but a couple of hits would down me) same thing next round he kept rolling 22's (Exacts) after he finally hit me cause i ran out of spell slot he rolled a nat 20 right after the 22. My wizard was down. At this point there was one goblin left in this tiny strong hold and it was the goblins turn.

Dm: "The goblin really should be attacking the unconscious wizard, but i don't want to kill him"

At this point i finally checked out. "Yes, this solely surviving goblin that is now surrounded by Fire (Our bird person flew with a bag of holding and bombarded their base with tar barrel which was dope) all of the other dead goblins and, my whole party ; would choose to kill the unconscious wizard instead of running or doing anything else" I said to myself. At this point i wanted my character to just die and ill roll a new one maybe something simple like a barbarian or a fighter. Regardless i said nothing besides to my party that this fight was miserable. After the session was over the DM point at me and says : "I can't wait to throw sorceress and wizards at you" I asked "why me?" "cause you "min maxed" he answers. Which was kind of true i love the combat aspect of dnd and i wanted to try the bladsinger tortel with bladeboom build which i asked if it was ok. After that session the dm asked us for a break from dming, i jumped on the chance because i was already homebrewing a world. Which brings us to today,

I sat down with him to make his character, I explained the world premises and we worked on his background story. But, i was already afraid that he is going to make a super strong character, because this is my first time DM'ing ever. And i had a gut feeling that he is going to make something with a high AC. Sure enough he made A human Variant twilight Cleric (If you google strongest lv.1 dnd character this pops up) I ok'ed it because it sounds fun, and if it is something that he truly want to play i don't want to deny him that. As he explained his character and what he wanted to do of protecting his party and all of that I made a mental note to myself "Chain events, separate the party in part 3 of the first act which is the finale of their test."

Sorry I wrote a whole thing here, but i really hope there is a kind soul out there to read my situation. Hopefully an experienced dm who can help me with an advice.
