Help with 14 month male dog
The dog is sweet and cuddly 80% of the time. 10% he’s in stealing and destruction mode. He’s very food motivated so it’s easy to get him to drop items/trade.
The other 10% is problems such as the fact that he guards people so he will growl, lung, bark if someone comes up to him while he’s with another person. We do training where we reward when he’s quiet and the person is walking around and up to me. But he has a vendetta against my dad, he’s much worse with him than anyone else in the house. He’s bitten my dad twice drawing blood when resource guarding my mum. He’s not allowed in bedrooms now and we are transitioning to putting him in a room over night.
The biggest issue is that he escapes / will have one of our shoes and start guarding outside our bedrooms so no one can get out. He will lung and growl.
We have had trainers come out and we have fixed some issues ie he was reactive to doors opening (it’s a loud door).
Hes recently had a burst abscess so I think the regression is linked to this but he’s on a lot of pain medication and is generally happy throughout the day and full of bean but his behaviour is significantly worse at night.
I feel worried that this behaviour is beyond the adolescent phase and this aggression is scary.
