Phone repair quote more expensive than a brand new phone, can I use this to negotiate with my insurer?
Dropped my phone abroad, back screen shattered, front cracked, and had a battery issue where it wasn't turning on (though it is now). Filed a claim with Taurus and they accepted it and gave me three options:
Send it in for repair
Exchange
Take it to the Genius Bar
I chose Genius Bar and Apple quoted **£714** to repair the iPhone 12 Pro Max. My excess is £150 so Taurus would cover the remaining £564.
Here's the thing you can buy a **brand new iPhone 16 for £599 on Amazon** or £699 in store. So the repair cost is more than a new phone.
I haven't confirmed the repair yet. My questions:
Has anyone successfully negotiated with Taurus to put the repair money toward a new device instead? - so it would be cheaper on their behalf - win win for each side
Is there any way to get a cash settlement equal to the phone's value minus excess?
Any experiences with Taurus claims specifically would be really helpful. Thanks!
