Fishing alpine lakes with partial ice cover - Colorado

I’ve been waiting for this lake to thaw. Going to be near it next week. Has anyone had reliable fishing with ice still on the lake? Or am I better off waiting till September. In Colorado.

Outrageous fishing overlooked in Colorado. Public access.

Great day. Had a couple big ones on but lost them. This river is passed over for another more famous river. Second time I’ve fished it in year.

Google Gemini says there are no salmonflies in NM Jemez Mtns.

Had Tuesday and Wednesday off. I considered running from Albuquerque to Conejos to find salmonflies. I tied a bunch of flies two years ago for Madison river but missed it by a week.

Lo and behold I found a Salmonfly in a willow along with others. It was spectacular. The minute it hit the water the trout were chasing it. Sometimes multiple browns. I cut the dropper because it was not gaining any attention at all.

Btw. The fly with white wing. That’s some foam that was packing material in a box.
