Legacy vs Thorns — low lows, high highs.

Thought it was going to be a long day, but it turned into a really fun game. It’s unfortunate not to get a point, but it was fun regardless. Curious to hear others’ thoughts. Here are some of mine:

From my perspective, Elgin was at fault for 2/4 goals. She went for/missed an ambitious tackle while Carabalí was already on the ball, which led to Wilson getting in behind for the second goal, and then made the turnover that led to the third. I think unfortunate day for an otherwise solid player.

That being said, subbing Elgin, shifting Reale inside, and adding Hernandez as a quicker attacking option on the left produced some pretty great chances and I don’t think our defense suffered for it. That could have been the general momentum of the game, but I’ll be interested to see if that combo becomes something we see more.

Gambone continues to impress off the bench. I’m glad Guti got a goal in the run of play. Hoping and praying Aissata starts putting away more chances—she’s my favorite player to watch either way though. Her passion is awesome, and I think the fans feel it when she’s out there.

Post-game thoughts/questions!

Alright, disclaimer, I watched the game from my couch last night. After we went down 2-0 I was in and out of focus.

That being said, towards the end it really seemed like we had the better of them. For those of you that were there or paying closer attention: Do you think this was because the Spirit chilled out knowing they had a ~pretty~ comfortable lead? Or do you think it’s something about the Legacy needing a deficit or crunch-time moments to start playing well? How can they access that potential for a full 90?

Any players standing out to you right now? I know she has her faults but I was really happy with BSG last night.

My post-game takes

Just got back from RI—can’t wait for White Stadium… maybe I’m the only one!

1st take (maybe a hot one): Araujo is crucial for our attack. Her outlet passes are decisive and can consistently break down the first level of an opponent’s defense. Sure, maybe she’s shaky at times and steps too high, but I’ll take that for what she brings to the attack. Elgin’s got her covered (I hope).

2nd take: I haven’t seen enough Josefine Hasbo love on here or elsewhere. She is an ENGINE in the defensive midfield, playing full nineties like it’s nothing. I wish she had more confidence in the attack, but maybe that will come.

3rd take (maybe the least hot): Gutierres and Aissata together more please? Maybe even Gambone if Gutierres’ is working through an injury. I love Aissata so much, she needs someone with a bit more stability and awareness to play off of. They were getting it more in the last few minutes tonight. Could’ve been adrenaline, but I liked what they were doing.

I’m new here, but I like the discussion posts I’ve seen in the past! What are your takeaways from tonight?
