5 things nobody tells you before you go off-grid

5 things nobody tells you before you go off-grid
After 8 years living off-grid in Ontario I’d say the biggest surprises were:
1. Water is harder than power. Everyone obsesses over solar. Water management will humble you faster.
2. Your first winter will expose every mistake you made in summer.
3. Loneliness hits differently than you expect — then it becomes your greatest teacher.
4. The learning never stops. Year 8 still surprises me.
5. Your neighbours (wildlife) will test your food storage within the first month.
