Live performance 9x9, 6
Hey guys,
I recently started DJing and I mainly play techno/hard techno. I already know the basics pretty well (beatmatching, transitions, phrasing etc.) and right now I’m mostly playing normal DJ sets with finished tracks.
But my long-term goal is to perform more “live” or hybrid sets like artists such as Nine Times Nine or 6EJOU.
What confuses me a bit is how exactly these performances work.
From what I understand, they still play tracks produced by other artists, but they also add live elements like claps, hi hats, percussion, effects, loops, transitions/build-ups etc.
I know that 9x9 uses:
\- Ableton Live
\- Ableton Push
\- Allen & Heath Xone:96
\- Roland TR-8S
Here are my questions:
\- Is this actually considered a real live set? Because on lineups it often says “LIVE” behind the artist name.
\- How do these setups usually work technically?
\- Are there any good recommendations, tutorials, courses or learning paths for getting into hybrid/live techno performance?
\- What would be the best way to start learning this stuff properly?
Right now I already own an XDJ-XZ and a TR-8S. I’m planning to buy a Xone:96 soon and start learning Ableton before maybe getting a Push later on.
Would really appreciate advice from people already doing this kind of setup.
