Lower canine close to incisor root in 10-year-old — extraction vs guided eruption?
Hello, I’m hoping to get some professional perspectives on my 10-year-old son’s orthodontic situation.
We recently had a CBCT and multiple orthodontic consultations regarding his lower left canine (#22). The canine appears to be erupting mesially and is positioned very close to the root of the lower left incisor, although the radiology report notes that there is currently no root resorption.
We’ve now received several different recommendations:
* One orthodontist recommended extraction of the permanent lower incisor to allow the canine to erupt properly.
* Another recommended close monitoring and waiting to see how eruption progresses.
* A third recommended early interceptive treatment to create space and potentially guide the canine into a more favorable position.
As a parent, I’m hesitant to remove a permanent incisor at this age unless truly necessary, especially since there does not appear to be root damage at this point.
I’ve attached a few images from the scan/X-rays and would really appreciate any professional insight on:
* How commonly lower incisor extraction is recommended in cases like this
* Whether space creation/guided eruption is often successful in similar cases
* Whether this seems like something that can reasonably be managed conservatively first
Thank you very much for any thoughts or perspectives.
