How much do certificate programs focus on calendaring (CA)?

I'm finding that new hires struggle with California legal calendaring. Our firm does not use a management program, so we just have to know the deadlines and rules ourselves. I had an excellent course in civil procedure during my certificate program (2013), which gave me a great start. A recent hire from a more prestigious certificate program with 2 years of experience is struggling to remember basic things like the deadline to serve a complaint or always checking for holidays when counting court days.

Are paralegal programs still focusing on how to calendar? Or is it that most firms are using software to calculate deadlines, so there's no reason to master calendaring after you get hired most places?
