TWOV

Please can someone confirm this statement "the TWOV is at 12AM of the following day you enter the country" and provide a source for me to print out? I've been searching for 6hrs online and have read some version of this statement multiple times, yet I have not been able to find an official statement.

This is absolutely necessary for my plans, shown below.

Itinerary:

  • Day 0 (May 19th): US - China TWOV Entry 1
  • Day 10 (May 29th): China - HK TWOV Exit 1
  • Day 10 or 11 (May 29/30th): HK - China TWOV Entry 2
  • Day 21 (June 8th): China - US TWOV Exit 2

Also, can someone please tell me what happens at the airport before I board and after I land?
"After leaving airport, you must register yourself within 24 hours upon arrival at the local police station or Public Security Bureau (PSB)." (https://www.chinadiscovery.com/chinese-visa/144-hour-visa-free.html) Is this true and how long does it take/how do I go about it?

Flight in <60 hours, please help

Original post

Edit 1:

Running into a large problem: TWOV application counts the day of entry as Day 1, not Day 0. On the form, I can only select up to May 28th as my departure date when I select May 19th as my entry date. Similarly, I can only select up to June 7th as my departure date with an entry date of May 29th. Is this different in person? I was told by someone that the date of arrival is D0 with D1 starting as midnight after D0 (allowing me to keep my flight tickets as is), but upon checking official websites I cannot find anywhere backing it up. Just "240 hour" visa-free entry.

Edit 2:

"After leaving airport, you must register yourself within 24 hours upon arrival at the local police station or Public Security Bureau (PSB)" (https://www.chinadiscovery.com/chinese-visa/144-hour-visa-free.html) is this true and how would I get it done? How long does it take?

Original Post below:

I have a US -> Shanghai -> Nanjing -> Shanghai -> US round trip with China Eastern booked for May 18th, letting me land in China on May 19th. Just found out my visa expired last week. I am visiting family and one is flying in to match my stay time and I am seeing that Q2 visa renewals may take up to 3-4 weeks. Can someone confirm if this travel plan would allow me to continue with my current itinerary?

  • Day 0 (May 19th): US - China TWOV Entry 1
  • Day 10 (May 29th): China - HK TWOV Exit 1
  • Day 10 or 11 (May 29/30th): HK - China TWOV Entry 2
  • Day 21 (June 8th): China - US TWOV Exit 2

TL;DR Will adding a flight to HK on May 29th or 30th allow me to continue with my May 18th-June 8th travel plans to China? Will China Eastern let me board since my visa is already expired and they can see my round trip dates.

Urgently Need Advice

I have a flight to China in less than 72 hours from now and have just discovered that my Visa to China expired last week. I am supposed to visit my family and others are flying in to match my visit time. Can someone who has been through the Visa renewal process recently please provide guidance on exactly what process I need to go through, and the general wait time?

More information:
I am a US citizen whose family is in China. I have visited them a couple of times as a kid. My closest consulate is the Consulate-General of China in San Francisco. Apparently I need to go there in person with my documents after submitting an online form. Then I need to wait several days at least to get it approved. Is there anything else I'm missing from this process?

I have found that the fastest I can get a renewal is 3 business days, but apparently the wait time is currently 3-6 weeks; is this true? Since I am able to visit the Consulate in SF in person, is paying an agent necessary? How long does it really take?
