The Time I Doubted My Google Maps and Later Cried I Doubted It

I had just moved to a new city after getting transferred by my company. First night there, I needed snacks and remembered passing a small store earlier. Now, a smart person would’ve used Google Maps.

But the “this could be an adventure” part of my brain took over. I told myself,

“How hard can it be?”

Huge mistake.

I started walking confidently… then less confidently… then spiritually. Every street looked the same. I passed the same dog twice. Even he looked concerned.

Google Maps sat in my pocket waiting for me to admit defeat. I refused. Because apparently I was in a competition with technology.

Then my battery hit 7%.

Adventure instantly became survival.

I finally opened Google Maps.

The store?

Three minutes from my apartment. I had been walking in circles for almost an hour. Bought my snacks, went home, and apologized to Google Maps in silence. I have not challenged her authority since.
