How to get a JOB in the Fashion Industry

Hi, I’m honestly feeling really discouraged and could use some advice.

Last year, I graduated as a fashion designer and bespoke tailor. Right after graduating, I started my own business, but because of the ongoing costs, I decided to close it and focus on finding a job in the fashion industry instead.

I knew from the beginning that breaking into the industry would be difficult, but I’ve noticed that many job openings at fashion brands are never even advertised, and it often feels like people only get in through connections. Because of that, I started sending speculative (unsolicited) applications directly to different brands.

I’m based in Germany, but my long-term goal is to work in Paris rather than stay here.

Does anyone have any tips on how to improve my chances? What do recruiters at fashion brands usually look for? And realistically, how difficult is it to land a position, especially if you’re applying without industry connections?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice. Thank you!
