Hi there! I recently learned how to knit vanilla socks on DPNs and I am very very happy! (It really was a dream of me!)

..but as I like colourful yarn and minimal designs, I would like to omit cuffs. I know that without them my socks would curl down. I thought of doing, after some stockinette rows, an only purl row - would this stop the sock from curling?

Or are there any patterns that don't look so...cuffy?

P.S: I also am thinking of trying to knit with cable needles, but do not seem to fully understand how to. Any simple pattern would be welcome!
